About This Event

Are Youth a voice in Peace and Security worldwide?
The first Youth Peace Summit in The Hague might provide the best ground for answering this
question!

On the 23rd and 24th of June, 120 young professionals will gather in The Hague – the city of peace and justice - in order to engage in several workshops related to peace and security during the Youth Peace Summit 2025.

At the end, they will draft a Peace Manifesto which will be handed to NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, to be presented to the other 32 member states during the NATO Summit, on the 24th and 25th of June.

This event is meant to mark the 10th anniversary of the UN Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and
Security, drafted in 2015.

Background
As a pivotal step in recognizing the positive role youth has in conflict and post-conflict settings, the
UN Security Council created in 2015 the UN Resolution 2250, which is called ‘’ Maintenance of
International Peace and Security’’. This resolution directly refers to Chapter 7, article 39 of the UN
Charter, which makes it binding.
Since its creation, the Resolution aims to hold governments accountable and oblige them to ensure youth:
Participation – it expects governments to create conditions for youth to participate in mechanisms of
prevention and resolution of conflict at a local, regional, national and international level.
Protection – it binds governments to ensure the protection of youth during armed conflict and in
post conflict settings.

Prevention – it urges governments to support the youth by creating spaces for them to successfully
implement violence prevention activities.
Partnerships – it obliges countries to empower youth and other community actors into countering
violent extremism and promoting social cohesion and inclusion in order to establish partnerships
with relevant actors.

Disengagement and reintegration – the UN Resolution 2250 encourages all actors involved in
disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) strategies to consider the impact these
processes have on youth and the needs of young people affected by conflict.
- Are you passionate about Peacebuilding, Prevention and Resolution of Conflict?
Consider signing up for the event and be one of those 120 young people who are about to make their voices heard and advocate for: more actions, more national-level measures, more dedicated funding and more accountability arrangements and help all actors deliver on the obligation under Resolution 2250 (2015).
